Connecticut School Fund records, 1799-1868.

Connecticut funded public education by selling land it claimed to own in Ohio, in the area known as the Western Reserve, and using the interest for supporting schools. The agreements and bonds made between purchasers and the Connecticut Treasurer, including Andrew Kingsbury and James Spencer, form the bulk of the collection. Also includes correspondence to and from Andrew Kingsbury, Oliver Phelps, and the Commissioner of the School Fund, James Hillhouse.
